Wadu-Net:
Vocational Learning for Young Indigenous Australians
Wadu
means 'together in partnership and trust' in the Kaurna
peoples’ language of Adelaide Plains, South Australia
Background
The Wadu strategy is a joint initiative of the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait
Islander People’s Training Advisory Council (ATSIPTAC) and the
Australian Student Traineeship foundation (ASTF). It has been
developed to promote best practice vocational education programs
through building partnerships between educators, businesses and
communities to improve educational success and create better
vocational opportunities for young indigenous Australians.
The strategy has five key components:
- funding of some pilot programs
- development of a How to.. guide
- development of a Professional Development kit
- establishment of a national network, Wadu-net
- inauguration of the Wadu award
Purpose
Wadu-net supports the Wadu strategy by providing a network through which
its members can
- Share good practice and success stories about Vocational Learning
for young Indigenous students
- Share resources and information
- Discuss issues and support each other
- Announce special events
