Online Guests: Program
Websites July 23-31, 1998 Guest posting to voced-coord
email list. Date: Fri, 24 Jul 1998 08:27:56 +1000 Greetings onliners Thanks Janine for the opportunity to be an online guest and those kind words in the intro. I am the coordinator of the St George compact, we are a small geographical area in Sydney's southern suburbs. Yes the mighty Dragons also call this home (not for long we hear). I have been coordinator for 4 years now and in that time, student numbers have soared from 60 too 491, largely due to the great work of our trained Voc Ed teachers who use our promotion material and resources. I only do this job 3 days a week (last 2 years 2 days a week, first year 1 day a week) as I still have to teach 2 days at James Cook Boys' Technology High School in Work Studies. With student numbers rising our management committee needed to look at alternative ways of managing our work placements, coordination & all other aspects of the compacts running, due to ASTF's policy of "self sufficiency" as they will not be funding coordination forever. We came up with the idea of developing an online resource (WEB Site) as
this was seen as the way of the future and it had many advantages and cost
savings to the way we operated previously. The online resource was
developed as an integral part of our support process for students,
parents, employers and teachers. The support package includes: I hope this gives an outline of what we do at the St George Compact. Most people will be interested in Web Page development (rightly so) I won't go through site designs and how you set up a site now, but I will answer individual questions as everyone's requirements are different. Unless everyone would like a generalised structure of the steps involved. Hear from you all soon |
