Marie Jasinski

Among her many online roles, Marie is the communications consultant for the LearnScope Project, with specific responsibilities for the Virtual Learning Community(VLC).

She is particularly interested in catering for diversity in learning preferences. Marie is currently exploring the potential of using games and simulations as online learning strategies. She believes that online interactivity is a human technology!

The Event
Participants will have opportunities to explore the various ways in which users of online learning materials actually use what is available.

Must the technology serve only as a means of delivering information? How can the Internet be used to help learners to construct their own knowledge? Is the Internet more about enhancing communication between learners, facilitators and other people?

Through a series of interactive games, in small groups, participants will address some of these key questions and be challenged to use the media to learners' best advantage.

Being a remote participant
People who register for the webcast version of this event will participate in the workshop that Marie is facilitating using a combination of technologies:

We expect that this event will work best with small group participation (4-5 people). Each group will need to have:

  • one or preferably two dial up connections to the Internet (if you have the luxury of two, use one for audio and one for chat(firewall restrictions on most School and Government Department networks make streaming audio and/or chat participation impossible.)
  • Ability for the whole group to see the chat monitor .
Either use a large monitor or a projector.
  • A nominated person who acts as facilitator for the group
This person will keep the group on task, be the primary contact at the time, act as recipient for postal materials and could also be scribe for chat though someone else could easily do that part.

Support (online and/or telephone) will be provided in the time leading up to the event.

Why not invite a few colleagues to join you and make it a social occasion with lunch afterwards?

Please contact the VECO Project Coordinator if you would have questions or would like to register for the live event. Note that registration is necessary due to license restrictions.

Instructions
You will need to ensure that you have RealPlayer G2 on your computer. Download the FREE RealPlayer G2 and follow the instructions at the site to install it on your computer.

Once you have installed the player, click on one of the test files below to ensure that your player works.  You may need to adjust the volume on your computer to hear the sound at a suitable level. It is recommended that you connect your sound card to a ghetto blaster, boom box or some other audio device that will allow you to amplify the sound.  This is particularly so if you are using a laptop computer.
