Hi to all,

Many Thanks to Sharon Bray, Mike Frost, Peter Crabbe and Ken Price for their responses to my first message. I certainly believe that teachers are able to make the transition to VocEd coordination, but I suppose my main point is that VocEd coordination is a full time job and not something that can be combined with a teaching load.My next issue is about "Changing Culture".

For a long time 100% of educational funding has been invested in the 30% of students who continue to university. Any rational person would have to see the injustice in this. The tide is slowly turning and many (especially School Administrators) don't like it. I agree that administrators are often the biggest problem, thwarting the efforts of excellent VocEd coordinators. I am extremely fortunate (and sometimes I forget this) to be involved in a school where the admin. is extremely supportive of VocEd. I would have died of frustration long ago if this wasn't the case. How do we change the "culture" in education? This is what is required. Major organisational change. Changes are best led from the "top" and implemented by changes at the "grass roots" levels through training and upskilling. This is how cultural change occurs. Change those in the system or replace them with others who are prepared to change. How can we best lead "cultural change" in our education systems? I don't have all the answers, but I look forward to your responses. I realise that I am largely "preaching to the converted" however I'd be pleased if you would show this message to your administrators and ask for their response. Go on, live dangerously, that's what life is all about. Calculated risks and trying new things. I'll be away tomorrow night at our school Careers Night, so I look forward to responses from administrators on Thursday night.
Cheers

Janelle
