Subject: Assessment issues (part 3 of 4)

Part 3: Development of Assessment Instruments,
Teachers Guidelines and Workplace Supervisor's Guidelines

The identification of models of successful practice in the office, tourism and metals industries lead to the development of generic principles, guidelines and materials for competency based assessment of trainees/students participating within VET in School Programs. This was the final stage of the project.

The Teachers_Guidelines have been designed to be a user friendly introduction to competency based assessment and it provides definitions of terms, explanations for building in procedures for validity and reliability as well as other quality assurance mechanisms. It also helps define the roles and responsibilities of assessors, candidates and workplace colleagues. We think you will find this booklet a very useful technical resource for use for years to come.

The Workplace Supervisor's Guidelines is a much shorter document that really just introduces supervisors to competency based assessment and explains their roles and responsibilities.

We have also developed some standardised, exemplar assessment procedures and materials against 7 units of competency. To assist assessors with the development of such materials, we have also created a template. All these materials are available for downloading.
