These help notes are for the use of those wishing to publish items in the
VECO Project Gallery.
About
the VECO Project Gallery
The VECO Gallery has a publishing tool that has been designed to make it very easy for you to publish stories directly to the VECO website. Those stories might be case studies or project reports (for ASTF funded projects and others). All you do is fill in a web form and the information will automatically be structured for you.
In order to contribute stories to the website you need to register for a username and password. You do this online
from the Gallery homepage - click on
"register".
Before
you begin your story/case study/project report
Before publishing your own story, it is a good idea to have a look at a few that have already been published. This will give you some idea of the variations that can be achieved.
Point your browser to the Gallery homepage, choose a category and then a specific story to view.
General
Layout of a Gallery page
On the following page you will see an example of the general layout of a gallery page with accompanying notes.
This is informative for when you are filling out the web form that will
generate your story in a formatted way.

Preparing
your material
You will find it much easier to publish a story if your material is
prepared in advance. You will need to fill in the fields shown
on page 3 which gives a screenshot of the form. By comparing the sample form with the sample gallery page, you can see where your information will be displayed.

You will need to
assemble electronically:
1. Text of your information to enter in the Gallery form
2. A picture if you wish to include one – the picture needs to be in the format of a gif file or a jpg file and be less than 50 KB.
This is added on a second form like the one below

3. Any associated files that you wish to upload
4. The address of any web links you wish to include along with a short description of the link.
You might
place all of these items in a special folder or subdirectory or
alternatively store them on a floppy disk.
Using
html in your story
Some of the fields on the
gallery web form enable you to “use html”. If you check this box then you can use html tags to format your text.
THIS IS PURELY OPTIONAL.
Using html is useful if you have lots of text and want to create subheadings or add interest by changing colours.
It isn't difficult if you know how!
Some sample html tags:
|
Tag |
Effect on text |
|
<p> |
Start a new paragraph |
|
</p> |
End the paragraph |
|
<strong> |
Make the following text bold |
|
</strong> |
End bold text |
|
<em> |
Make the following text italic |
|
</em> |
End italic text |
|
<br> |
Line break |
A note about white space:
When using html, you will need to include paragraph tags in order to generate white space between paragraphs. However, if you do not check the html box, paragraphs will appear just as you enter them.
