The Australian Careers Service (ACS) is a joint initiative of The Good Guides Group (publishers of the Job Guide, The Good Universities Guide and Future Finder) and Curriculum Corporation (managers of the OZJAC database).
The ACS is a free, membership service developed for school-based careers practitioners. It aims to support best practice and innovation in the delivery of school-based careers programs, to promote career education as a professional and recognised field of endeavour, and to facilitate networking and knowledge sharing across the profession.
The ACS believes that innovation and quality in school careers programs should be recognised and that this knowledge and expertise should be shared amongst the school careers education community.
It is in keeping with this belief that the ACS, with the support of the Australian Student Traineeship Foundation (ASTF), has established the National Innovation in School Careers Programs Award.
ELIGIBILITY The Award is open to all government, independent, Catholic and other denominational schools in Australia that offer a careers program, and those school clusters offering a coordinated careers program across all cluster members.
SELECTION The initial short list will be compiled solely on the basis of written responses against the seven categories of the Careers Education Quality Framework. A national panel with significant expertise in the field has been assembled to shortlist the nominated schools and programs.
RECOGNITION Award Winner - Two fully funded packages for the 10th Annual AACC National Conference in Hobart in April 2001; $1,000 worth of career information resources; the Award Winner’s seal; a certificate and a trophy for the school.
Finalists - All shortlisted programs receive $500 worth of career information resources, the Finalist’s seal and a certificate.
All shortlisted programs will be profiled through the ACS and the media, and will participate in an on-line forum discussing innovation and best practice in school careers programs. This forum will be moderated through the ASTF’s Vocational Education Community Online (VECO) email lists, shortly after the AACC conference.
