Eight outstanding female IT students are to be empowered to make the most of their career potential via a new nationwide scholarship program, W-ith IT,launched on Tuesday 13 March.
|
Note that students studying Cert III in IT as a VET in schools course are likely to be eligible.
E-learning consultant Dr Dale Spender will launch the W-ith IT program, which will give free training in a highly-regarded industry certification program and a personal mentor to a female IT student in vocational education and training (VET) in every State and Territory.

The scholarship is an initiative of the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA), the peak national VET policy advisory body.
“W-ith IT will give women with IT skills the resources to aim higher and go further, creating role models and opening doors to encourage others to follow,” Dr Spender said.
“These women have recognised that if you aren’t learning IT skills, you won’t be earning in the digital world and W-with-IT will acknowledge their talents and efforts nationally.
“In just three years, it’s estimated that there’ll be around 180,000 unfilled information and communication technology jobs in Australia and almost a third of them could be filled by people with VET qualifications.
“This is a practical way for ANTA to help tackle two needs: enterprises needs for skilled people and talented women wanting to make the most of their potential.” Dr Spender launched the scholarship today at Parliament House in Sydney at an International Women’s Day celebration run jointly by Females in Technology and Telecommunications (FITT) and the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA).
W-ith IT is offering free training places in a range of certification programs including Microsoft, Terasys Australia, Cisco and Oracle to winners. As well, senior women in the IT industry in the winners’ home States will become their mentors, giving them guidance and advice through their training and when they start looking for work.
The scholarships are open to any female student undertaking Certificate III, IV or Diploma level IT studies aligned to the national IT Training Package. A panel of IT industry and training experts will select the winner in each State and Territory. Winners will be selected on their training achievements and personal attributes.
Entries close on Tuesday, 10 April and the winners will be announced in mid-May.
Dr Spender said the close involvement of the IT industry in a VET project was an exciting element of the scholarship.
“An enduring and invaluable element of this program is the networks and relationships that will develop between enterprises, students, IT training providers and other VET agencies,” she said.
Entry forms for W-ith IT are available at www.anta.gov.au
