Riverina Co-ordinators Network - Final Report 2000
ECEF Priority Areas project
by Debbie Castle

The Riverina Co-ordinators Network (RCN) has continued to grow stronger and achieve quality outcomes during 2000. In fact, we have had to change our name to the Greater Riverina Co-ordinators Network as the boundary area has expanded from its original members. The network now covers workplace co-ordinators in regions of Wagga Wagga, Albury, Deniliquin, Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera, Junee, Riverina Highlands, West Wyalong, SW Slopes and Yass. Invitations have been extended to new co-ordinators in Temora and Cootamundra. Our last meeting in Yass included visiting workplacement co-ordinators from Queanbeyan, Canberra and Batemans Bay.

Quarterly Meetings
The quarterly RCN meetings have been held at different locations throughout the Riverina. The hosting program of each meeting included an industry focus relating to their town. This has included site visits and guest speakers. The meetings have provided co-ordinators with an excellent networking opportunity to meet face to face and experience other programs hands on.

Where appropriate, delegates from relevant bodies were invited to attend meetings. Over the four meetings held this year the RCN has had participation from 5 district DET VET Consultants, Catholic Secondary Schools Consultant, DET Superintendent, Area Consultative Committee, DETYA, TAFE, ASTF, various industry guest speakers, visiting workplace co-ordinators and careers advisors.

Online Network and Virtual Office
The RCN has established an on-line network and virtual office using an E-group. The Riverina-net E-Group provides a means of communicating with members through a group email network and stores documents and resources for sharing between programs.

Any program wanting to visit the RCN E-groups should contact: Anna Cutler (0418 479509), Sue Gavel (0417 676852) or Pene Butt (0408 263395).

Minimum Benchmarks Established
This year, the RCN established minimum Benchmarks for Student and Employer Induction, Monitoring and Assessing, Protocols between Programs and Protocols for using and visiting the E-group. These are all stored on the E group for viewing of other interested networks.

Employer Brochure Developed with ACC
Close links have been formed with the Riverina Area Consultative Committee which has worked with the RCN to develop a generic employer brochure which was sent to every employer in the Riverina. The brochure included photographs of Riverina students in the workplace to promote VET in schools to employers. The RACC has also provided additional funds to the RCN for the development of a 2001 calendar which is currently being produced and for a newspaper supplement which will be organised for mid 2001.

Quick Tips for Regional Networks
The RCN has worked together to produce a Quick Tips for networks which will be distributed to all ASTF funded programs.
