The aim of this project is to provide Koori students with experinces that will encourage them to consider VET in schools programs and other training options that they have not previously been exposed to,or have not considered.
|
A program is being developed to allow a group of Koori students primarily in Yrs8/9&10 to undertake a structured workplacement over 5-10 days in a field of interest to them with the aim of generating enthusiasm for them to continue in education and training in areas of there own choosing. To assist this program a group of employers will be chosen to undertake a mentoring program. Information kits are being developed for future employers and potential students.

November 2000 Report The project is currently running approximately 6 weeks behind schedule due to a number of factors. -a delay in starting caused by late signing of contracts etc. - the difficulty in finding an appropriate project officer with community acceptance -once found we had to be prepared to make allowances for his previous committments which he needed to honour. -we had to be thorough with regard the extra paperwork and approvals that are necessary especially with regard yr 8&9 students
The employers have been selected and put through an induction process together with commencing the mentor training(3 by 3 hours plus 1 hour of 1 on 1 training)
At the end of December 2000, 18 students will have completed their 5/10 day placements.
